Fact Sheet (Symphytum officinale)
Description...
This herb has a very good
reputation as a wound healer. It soothes, heals and reduces inflammation.
Taking this product
internally raises some controversy and is not recommended unless you are under the careful
supervision of a Health Professional. Comfrey contains a substance which can cause liver
damage when consumed in large amounts. The active substance in comfrey is allantoin, which
encourages new cells.
Although its internal use
remains questionable, comfrey can be used safely on external injuries such as cuts and
other wounds.
