Blackmores Bio Iron
Iron deficiency is the most common nutrient deficiency in the world. Women have higher iron requirements than men. Blackmores Bio Iron is specially formulated to provide a variety of vitamins and nutrients to meet women's special needs, and when used as directed, should not cause gastric irritation or constipation.
Features and benefits
- Specifically formulated for women's needs - combines iron with co-factors for improved absorption and utilisation
- Contains Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) which when taken at the same time as iron achieves a significantly higher absorption of nonheme iron
- Gentle on the stomach formula - when used as directed should not cause gastric irritation or constipation
How it works
Without proper iron levels, cell oxygenation and energy production suffer, resulting in generalised fatigue, a decline in the body's detoxification mechanisms, and a reduction in resistance to infection. Iron is at the core of haemoglobin, binding oxygen to red blood cells, and is essential for muscle oxygen uptake and the activity of certain enzymes. Blackmores Bio Iron contains ferrous fumarate, a gentle form of iron which when used as directed should not cause gastric irritation or constipation.
Vitamin C is included to facilitate uptake of iron. Vitamin B12 is essential for the functioning of enzymes in amino acid, fatty acid, and nucleic acid metabolism, and is also required for the metabolism of folic acid. Foetal formation increases the mother's need for folic acid and deficiency is common during pregnancy. Supplementation of folic acid is recommended for at least one month prior to conception and for the duration of the pregnancy, and may reduce the incidence of neural tube defect in the child. Additionally, deficiency of folic acid (along with vitamin B6), is associated with elevated plasma levels of homocysteine.
