Product Description

Maybe Baby is a mini microscope for determining a woman's fertile and infertile period.
Maybe Baby allows an exact determination of the fertile period for predicting conception easily and quickly by detection of the estrogen level in saliva.

The so-called "fern-phenomenon" was discovered in 1957 by doctors in Italy. These physicians discovered that the level of the sex hormone estrogen could be detected through visual observation of the dried saliva sample on a microscope slide. At high levels such as those present during ovulation, the crystallized estrogen exhibits a pattern resembling fern leaves in the Maybe Baby

Maybe Baby is a precision instrument that contains a microscope lens to examine a saliva sample under illumination from an LED light source. When estrogen is present, a fern leaf pattern is observed through the viewfinder of the Maybe Baby

Directions:

For best results Maybe Baby should be used immediately after waking and before eating, drinking, smoking or brushing of the teeth. Before use, clean the internal glass surface of the viewfinder (2.2) with the Maybe Baby lint free cloth. Apply saliva on the carefully cleaned internal glass surface. Make sure there are no bubbles. After the saliva has dried (allow 5 to 10 minutes) observe the sample through the mini-microscope viewfinder (2). A pattern will appear to determine the fertile or infertile period of the menstrual cycle.

Use Maybe Baby to:

  • Determine the optimal time (4 days before and 2 days after ovulation) for a wanted pregnancy. At this time, the fern leaf structure should clearly appear.

  • Determine the optimal time *time of ovulation) for a wanted pregnancy in case of secondary sterility. On the day of ovulation the fern leaf structure should appear very clearly.

  • Influence the sex of the child with some reliability. Sperm, which determines male or female sex, have a different life time and speed movement. Therefore the probability of a female child is higher in the case of sexual intercourse before ovulation (when the fern leaf structure is partially developed). In the case of conception during ovulation (when fern leaf structure is fully developed) the parents may more likely look forward to a boy.

Modification of the fern leaf structure can occur in the Maybe Baby:

  • After giving birth, during and after breast feeding

  • After discontinuing intake of oralcontraceptives

  •  During use of T-copper coils

  • With illnesses and intake of substances modifying the mucus structure

  • During intake of expectorant products

  • After consumption of alcohol, tobacco, toothpaste or mouthwash

About MAYBE BABYâ„¢

Sometimes even perfectly fertile couples have difficulty conceiving. Many healthy couples take at least a year to fall pregnant because there’s only a small window of opportunity in which you can conceive each month. That's why it's really important to know when this fertile period is.

MAYBE BABYâ„¢ is a mini microscope that helps you identify the fertile period in which you can fall pregnant. It works as the increased oestrogen levels which occur in the period around ovulation can be identified by examining dried saliva.

As the saliva dries the hormone causes a fern-leaf pattern to develop and this pattern can be seen through the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ microscope.

So, MAYBE BABYâ„¢ helps you predict when you are most likely to conceive. No inconvenient, messy urine testing. No complicated daily temperature charts. No visits to the doctor. This simple saliva test helps pinpoint when you are ovulating.

And because MAYBE BABY™ is re-usable month after month, it’s a cost-effective alternative to single-use fertility predictors, such as urine tests.

How does MAYBE BABYâ„¢ work?

MAYBE BABYâ„¢ works by creating an image of your saliva.

The level of oestrogen in saliva increases dramatically two to three days prior to your fertile period and reaches its peak on the day of ovulation. By viewing the magnified image of your saliva through the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ microscope you can pinpoint when your oestrogen levels are rising and therefore when you are most likely to conceive.

It only takes a few moments to take the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ ovulation test.

Simply place a small amount of saliva on the lens, allow it to dry and look through the viewfinder.  (see also MAYBE BABYâ„¢ Parts)

When dry saliva is viewed through a microscope it reveals distinct patterns. These patterns will help you determine which stage of your cycle you are in by helping to recognise oestrogen changes. (Please note that these images are a guide - your samples may not look exactly the same. The ferns/pebble patterns are portrayed as black for ease of viewing however you will see them as translucent/greyish patterns against the green background).

a. How many times can I use the MAYBE BABYâ„¢?

Your MAYBE BABYâ„¢ can be re-used over and over. There is nothing further to buy or replace, other than the batteries, which will eventually need to be replaced.

b. Should I start using the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ on the days just before I expect to ovulate?
Unless you have very regular cycles and are sure of the days before you ovulate we suggest using the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ every day so that you become familiar with your body's cycles.  Although the text book example of the fertility cycle has a 28 day cycle with ovulation on day 14 many women do not have text book cycles.  Some cycles may be longer or shorter and your day of ovulation can also vary. That's why it is recommended to chart your cycle using the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ Fertility Chart.

c. Should the pattern cover the whole lens?

If you have covered the entire lens with your saliva sample, the pattern should also cover the entire lens.   Try to ensure the saliva is evenly covering the lens.  If you have only covered a part of the lens then only this part will display patterns.  As long as you can recognise the pattern clearly, this is enough.

top

d. Is the image seen through MAYBE BABYâ„¢ supposed to be black?

No. Our illustrations use black lines to illustrate the difference in the sample. In reality your pattern lines will be grey in colour but they will be very obvious.  There will also be a translucent effect.

e. How much saliva do I place on the lens?

Your saliva sample should fully cover the lens.  The sample should be approximately the size of a 5 cent piece and should be able to completely dry in approximately 10-15 minutes.  If it's not dry after 15 minutes then you have used too much.  If it dries in under 5 minutes you have not put enough saliva on the lens.  It may take a little practice but you will get used to it.

top

f.  If I leave my sample and look at it again later in the day, I get a different pattern. Which is correct?

The pattern that you see after approximately 10 minutes of drying time is the correct one. Any longer than 15 minutes may result in a contaminated and therefore inaccurate reading.

g. Can I sterilize my MAYBE BABYâ„¢?

There is no way to ‘sterilize’ your MAYBE BABY as such. To clean it just use a soft, microfibre cloth such as a sunglasses cloth that won’t scratch the lens to ensure the lens is clean when you look through the viewfinder.

top
h. Will cigarettes/chewing gum/toothpaste affect the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ reading?
Yes, basically anything that you put in your mouth (besides water) may affect the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ reading as it affects your saliva. You need clean saliva to get a reliable reading.
top
i. How do I clean the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ lens?

When your saliva sample is completely dry wipe the lens with the MAYBE BABY cloth (or any other lint-free cloth). If necessary you can apply fresh saliva to help clean it. Never use water, alcohol swabs or any other cleaning method (see also the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ Parts page for lens care).

j. How do I clean the MAYBE BABYâ„¢ cloth?

Clean the cloth with a gentle detergent and make sure it is dry before you use it again.

Warning

Infections of oral and pharyngeal cavity may lead to inaccurate results. The internal glass of the viewfinder (2.2) must be carefully cleaned before a test is undertaken. This should be checked before applying saliva. For hygienic reasons maybe baby should be used only by one individual. The mini-microscope must be protected from dust, heat and moisture.
